HILAR MEETINGS
Although our project partners and collaborators participate in a number of joint scientific and research activities where they have the opportunity to exchange ideas, the official HILAR meetings, where the strategy of the implementation of the program is discussed and decided, presents one of the crucial activities inside the HILAR project.

HILAR WORKSHOPS
International intensive programme activities (or field workshops) are strategically designed to combine various scientific fields, and different work methods (both lab/field work and practice sessions, as well as classroom lectures) and to maximize the potential held by an inclusive participant list. While the students receive practical knowledge and an opportunity to discuss contemporary research methodology/ies with international experts from various disciplines, this form of activity serves as a testing ground for the creation of a new higher university Master study Landscape cultural heritage manager, which is one of the main intellectual outputs of the HILAR project.
So far three thematic workshops have been held, each combining specific knowledge, methodological approaches, and skills related to the goals of the HILAR project:
- workshop organized by University of Padua in Castelseprio (Provincia di Varese, Italy) October 30th – November 12th 2021
- 2nd workshop organized by University of Zagreb on the island of Rab (Quarnero region, Croatia) September 20th – October 4th 2021
- 3rd workshop organized by University of Zagreb on the island of Rab (Quarnero region, Croatia) June 3rd – 17th 2022
HILAR INTELLECTUAL OUTPUT
The main objective of this project is to create and apply an innovative, immersive, and participatory teaching program on cultural heritage, particularly on the recording, study, and management of historical landscapes understood as a systemic and diachronic product of humanity. Therefore, all the project’s activities strive to achieve that objective and their implementation is planned accordingly.
SOCIOLOGICAL PILOT STUDY
As a part of the HILAR project, a special sociological session was established where students, early-stage researchers and their professors help to develop a new methodological approach to interdisciplinary research and the management of cultural heritage. The first activity of the session, led by sociologist Jana Vukić (University of Zagreb), was the sociological research about the relationship between local communities and their heritage carried out on the island of Rab. It has included around 170 locals, experts and stakeholders, and can serve as a model for future research on the importance of the participation of the local communities in sustainable heritage management.
